Submission Guidelines

Audi Locus: A Journal of Poetry welcomes submissions of poetry, visual art, and photography from writers and artists worldwide. We publish two online issues per year, one in January and one in July. We are thrilled to consider your work for our upcoming issues. Please review the submission guidelines below.

All submissions should be primarily in English, but the inclusion of some foreign language within your composition is welcome.

Audi Locus: A Journal of Poetry
Submission Periods

  • January Issue: Unthemed
    Submissions open from
    Oct 1 to Nov 30.

  • July Issue: Themed: Witness
    Submissions open from
    Apr 1 to May 31.

Submission Process

  • Submit 1-3 poems via the Google Forms link provided on this page (poetry submissions received via email will not be accepted).

  • Art and music submissions should be sent via email (audilocusblog@gmail.com).

  • Include a short bio with up to 3 previous publication credits (we’d rather hear more about you!) and your social media handles.

  • If you write a cover letter, your editors are Maudie and Brandon. However, we won’t read the cover letters for poetry until after we’ve read and decided on the works!

Poetry

  • Include 1-3 poems.

  • Times New Roman, 12 pt preferred.

  • Save and upload your poems in a single document (.doc/.docx).

  • Include no identifying information in the file name or body of work — this helps us to read blind!

  • One submission at a time. If we respond while the submission period is still open, you may send more after the response.

  • Submit poetry via our google form.

Visual Art

  • We accept visual art in both traditional and digital media, as well as photography.

  • Submissions will be accepted during our poetry reading periods.

  • Include 1-5 pieces.

  • Email your art submissions to audilocusblog@gmail.com.
Begin your subject line with "ART SUBMISSION".

Blog Submissions

(Reviews/Interviews/Other):

  • Rolling submissions. This is where to send your music releases, interview requests, book reviews, academic essays or anything that doesn’t fit the prior categories but you think we’ll vibe with.

Music

  • submissions should be already released and include links to embeddable songs and/or videos.

Publication Rights

  • By submitting to Audi Locus, you confirm that the work is your own.

  • Poetry should be previously unpublished (we mean at another journal or
publication—on your social media or personal blogs is okay).

  • Given the nature of visual art, previously published is okay (let us know if we should credit another journal!).

  • After confirming acceptance, you grant Audi Locus first electronic rights for poetry and non-exclusive archival rights for all published works. Rights revert to the author upon publication.

  • Please credit Audi Locus as the original publisher for any future republications.

Response Time

  • We aim to respond to all submissions within 4 weeks of the submission deadline. If you do not hear from us within this time frame, please follow up.

Simultaneous Submissions

  • We accept simultaneous submissions, but please notify us if your work is accepted elsewhere.

Payment

  • At this time, we are non-paying market.

  • However, authors will receive a .PDF contributor copy of the issue featuring their work.

Content and Theme

  • Poetry does not need to be about music, but music must be poetic.

  • For the January issue, we accept poems on any topic or theme. Surprise us!

  • For the July issue, please ensure your submissions align with the announced theme. The theme will be available on our website and social media by March 15.

  • Regardless which submission period (themed or unthemed), if you enjoy poetry that evokes strong feelings and explores themes of liminality, existentialism, or surrealism, we'd love to read your work. Think alt-pop, trip-hop, and folk music. We’re open to creativity and are excited to read what you want to share.

  • We do not accept any content that promotes hate, bigotry, or discrimination in any form.

  • Our focus is on highlighting the diversity and originality of human creativity. Please do not submit work that is entirely AI-generated.

Editing

  • If you're open to feedback and editing, we may accept your submission pending changes. In the submission form, you can indicate your comfort level with feedback and the type of editing you're willing to accept:

  • Line Editing: Suggestions to refine sentence structure, line breaks, improve flow, and enhance clarity while preserving your unique voice.

  • Content Editing: In-depth feedback on themes, structure, and overall impact, which may involve significant revisions.

  • We’ll respect your preferences and ensure that no changes are made without your approval.

  • Let us know how we can best support your vision!
